The congressionally mandated Diversity Immigrant Visa Program is administered on an annual basis by the Department of State and conducted under the terms of Section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Section 131 of the Immigration Act of 1990 (Pub. L. 101-649) amended INA 203 to provide for a new class of immigrants known as "diversity immigrants" (DV immigrants). Alien petitioners for the Diversity Visa Program will no longer be permitted to submit a petition by mail. Instead, the Department will require that all petitions be submitted to it in an electronic format, using an Internet website dedicated specifically to the submission and receipt of Diversity Visa.

US Immigration Lottery Program Overview
GENERAL
The American Green Card Lottery Program, known as DV (Diversity Visa) Lottery program, is a good opportunity for potential immigrants to obtain the status as a permanent legal resident of the USA. This program runs each year and provides 50,000 "Green-Cards" to applicants randomly selected in the US Immigration Lottery process.

HOW IT WORKS
This official US Immigration Lottery Program will make permanent residence visas(Green-Cards)available to persons meeting the simple, but strict , eligibility requirements. Applicants for Diversity Visa are chosen by a computer-generated random lottery drawing. The U.S. government makes available 50,000 permanent residence visas each year for this program. Application to the US Immigration Lottery program is open for all individuals worldwide that fulfill the two basic entry requirements. The visas are distributed among six geographic regions with a greater number of visas going to regions with lower rates of immigration, and with no visas going to citizens of countries sending more than 50,000 immigrants to the U.S. in the past five years. Within each region, no one country may receive more than seven percent of the available Diversity Visas in any one year.

The Immigrant Diversity Visa Lottery has been established in the 1996 Immigration Act inorder to give immigration opportunity to natives from countries other than the main source of immigration to the U.S.A. WHAT IS US GREEN-CARD?
A US Green-Card is a permanent residence visa that gives a person the legal right to LIVE, WORK AND STUDY permanently in the United States and to enter and leave the country freely. You may work in any government, public and private job that is available.
A permanent residence visa is generally good for life. Green-Card holders also receive health, education, retirement, taxation, social security and other benefits. The Green Card DOES NOT affects your present citizenship. A US Green Card holder may later apply for United States Citizenship, if desired.

ARE THERE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE OFFICIAL US IMMIGRATION LOTTERY?
Yes; Country of Eligibility and Education requirements are needed to qualify for the American Green Card Lottery program.
Country of Eligibility
1. Applicant must either be born from a qualifying country; or
2. The spouse must be born from a qualifying country; or
3. Both parents were born from a qualifying country.

You can claim your spouse's country of birth provided both you and your spouse are on the application will enter the U.S. at the same time. Second, if you were born not eligible for the U.S. immigration lottery, but neither of your parents was born or resided in that country at the time of your birth, you may claim nativity in one of your parents' country of birth if it is a country that qualifies for the DV-2008 program.
Education
1. A high school education or its equivalent, defined in the U.S. as successful completion of a 12-year course of elementary and secondary education.
2. Two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring at least two years of training or experience to perform.
